THE HENDERSON KOLK DUO - SUNDAY MAY 9, 2:00 P.M. CHURCH OF THE NAZARENE, 347 FAIRVIEW DR. BRANTFORD. ADMISSION $15 FOR ADULTS, $10 FOR AND SENIORS

THE HENDERSON KOLK DUO WILL PERFORM SUNDAY MAY 9 AT 2:00
                                          Henderson-Kolk Duo

Since forming in 2004, the Henderson-Kolk Duo have established themselves as one of Canada's premier classical guitar duos. Drew Henderson and Michael Kolk met at the University of Toronto where they studied with Jeffrey McFadden. They quickly cultivated a musical chemistry that has resulted in a dynamic and exciting performance style. As soloists they have combined for nine international competition prizes at festivals such as Lachine (2003, 2004, 2006), Columbus, GA (2005), Rantucci (2002, 2005) and Concorso chitarristico "Citta di Voghera" (2007). As a duo they have performed throughout Canada, and made their international debut at the Mediterranean Guitar Festival in Cervo, Italy in 2006.

Much of the Duo's energy has been directed towards arranging new pieces for two guitars, the results of which can be heard on their first CD, entitled Original Guitar Transcriptions, available for purchase online through their website, CDbaby.com and on itunes. Selections from this disc have received airplay on CBC Radio 2 in Canada, as well as the Classical Guitar Alive radio program broadcast throughout the US. Please visit

Michael Kolk
began studying classical guitar at the age of 6 at the Vancouver Academy of Music with Robert Jordan, where he stayed for 11 years. In 2000 he completed his ARCT in performance through the Royal Conservatory of Music. Michael has won numerous regional guitar competitions as well as the Lachine International Guitar Competition, the FCMF National Competition, and the Northwest Guitar Festival. He received the Fraser MacPherson Scholarship in 2002, and has twice been awarded the Ken Young Scholarship from the Guitar Society of Toronto, as well as an entrance scholarship upon acceptance to the University of Toronto from the same society. He has performed in masterclasses for Manuel Barrueco, Fabio Zanon, Roland Dyens, Carlos Barbosa-Lima, and Pavel Steidl, among others. In addition to his classical studies, Michael pursues his interest in rock music with a band in Toronto. In 2005 he received his Bachelor of Music Degree in guitar performance from the University of Toronto under Jeffrey McFadden.

Drew Henderson
